Final statement of the BS NGO Forum 2018

At the XVIth Baltic Sea NGO Forum for the Baltic Sea NGO Network, held on 17-18 May in Uppsala, participants of the Forum agreed on an official statement in line with the long-term priorities of the CBSS, priorities of the Swedish Presidency of CBSS 2017-2018 and the Action Plan of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR).

The network represents a resource of knowledge, local anchoring and involvement of citizens. To utilize the full potential and in order to make the network contribute to solving joint challenges in the region, concrete commitments and mutual actions are needed. The Forum agreed on the need to strengthen the capacity of the network itself by a possible formalization of an association and asks national focal points to take the question further.

The statement conveys recommendation aimed at strengthening transnational cooperation between NGOs and the networks support to NGOs regarding their possibilities to influence and participate in decision-making in all countries around the Baltic Sea. It aims at strengthening the democratic processes and multi-level governance in the Baltic Sea Region.
